Morality is a Principle in Islam

Morality is a principle in Islam - An author named Al Ikhlas, Lc., MA in his book 'Islamic Education', mentions morality in language interpreted as habits, ethics and nature of a person.

In terms of Imam al-Ghazali mentioned that morality is a good character that will usually have good character as well and vice versa if someone who has a bad nature tends to have a despicable character.

The word morality is also mentioned in the word of Allah the Almighty:

إِنَّآ أَخْلَصْنَٰهُم بِخَالِصَةٍ ذِكْرَى ٱلدَّارِ

We purified them with a pure remembrance of the Hereafter."

1. Morality towards Allah.

Human beings are given perfection and advantages compared to other beings. Human beings are also given the sense to think, feelings and lusts. So we should have good character towards Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala.

According to the word of God:

And if you would count the favors of Allah, you would not be able to number them. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful." (Qs. Al-Nahl: 20).

He is Allah, the All-knower. These two things are also the duty of man to God which is stated in the word:

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ أُولَٰئِكَ هُمْ خَيْرُ الْبَرِيَّةِ

Meaning: "How excellent are those who believe and do good works, for them are the best of creatures". (QS. Al-Bayyinah: 7).

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) once said:

إِنَّ مِنْ أَحَبِّكُمْ إِلَيَّ وَأَقْرَبِكُمْ مِنِّي مَجْلِسًا يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ أَحَاسِنَكُمْ أَخْلَاقًا

They will be the best of those who will be nearer to you on the Day of Resurrection. (HR. Tirmidhi no. 1941. Rated hasan by Al-Albani in Saheeh Al-Jaami' no. 2201.)

2. Morality as a Parent

Of course, the child becomes a mandate given by Allah SWT to his parents. Our obligation as parents is to give a good name, slaughter aqiqah animals on the seventh day of their birth, circumcise them, give affection, give a living, provide education especially related to religion and marry them to a good partner after adulthood.

3. Morality towards Fellow Human Beings

Islam teaches that people always maintain and float good relations between human beings including with neighbors. This obligation is considered important because it can affect the quality of one's faith.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

"It is not a believer who himself is full while his neighbor (next door) is starving." (HR. Bukhari).

Of the three, of course we must do well about the morality of Allah the Almighty and to fellow human beings.
